The Materials Center is a community resource open to the public that houses a large collection of “found” materials, gathered and donated by New York City residents and businesses. These materials are objects from our everyday lives that are often discarded, but could be repurposed or transformed into something new, encouraging creativity, problem solving, and action. We believe that these materials can enhance and enrich children’s learning, creative expression, and symbolic development.
Come by during our open hours to browse, shop for materials for your next project idea, and to drop off donations of materials. We hope to see you soon!
We are very pleased to partner with The Manny Cantor Center in establishing our first public Materials Center. Manny Cantor Center is the flagship community center of Educational Alliance, offering award-winning programs, critical services, and exciting events for toddlers, teens, young adults, and older adults of all backgrounds. We work for and with our vibrant neighborhood to create experiences that make a difference in our community. Teaching Beyond the Square is grateful to be a part of such a diverse and dynamic community!
Teaching Beyond the Square is one of many donateNYC partner organizations in New York City that collect and redistribute secondhand and surplus goods.
